Erin Horn

Currently coaching: Vital 12-1 Gold

Erin Horn returns to coaching at Vital after being a part of the original coaching staff from 2012-2016. During that time, she coached both the 15-1s and 16-1s. Although she took time off from coaching club volleyball, she has been the Varsity Head Coach at Cretin-Derham Hall since 2022. During that time, she has been a part of a major culture change within the program and has led the varsity team from seasons where they were only winning one match to a state tournament berth in 2024. This club season, she will take on her biggest challenge yet, the 12-1s.
Erin grew up in Ames, IA where her interest in volleyball was first peaked watching her mom play in rec leagues. She started playing for her middle school team in 7th grade and never looked back. Erin was recruited by the University of Minnesota and spent four years playing for some of the best coaches the sport has ever known. She was dubbed the “emotional leader” of the team, which is clearly reflected in her coaching style. She helped the Golden Gophers win a Big Ten Conference Championship in 2002 and helped them make back-to-back runs to the Final Four in 2003 and 2004, with a trip to the National Championship in 2004 that ended with a heart-breaking loss to Stanford. The best thing that came out of those four years were the deeply forged friendships with teammates that continue to this day. Shoutout to Kelly Stuntz!
Erin graduated from the University of Minnesota with a dual degree: a Bachelor of Science in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development, and a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies. She returned to the University of Minnesota in 2016 for her Master’s in Nursing. She currently works as a Labor and Delivery nurse in St. Paul, where she also lives with her husband, Aaron, and three kids, Charley (11), Xander (10), and Dez (7). In her very limited free time she enjoys reading and watching her kids play the sports that they love.
